SOMTEC-CH is the Swiss subsidiary of the SOMOS Group, a leading manufacturer of diamond wire lapping, polishing and cutting machines and tooling for over 120 years. The group manufactures equipment specially designed for demanding sectors such as precision optics, luxury watchmaking and the medical sector.

At SOMTEC-CH, our mission is to sell and distribute machines, tools and consumables for the Swiss market.

We are proud to offer our customers high-quality after-sales service, as well as a high-performance technical department for process development and technical support.

To meet the specific needs of each customer, we also offer testing on our machines, as well as subcontracting. By working with SOMTEC-CH, our customers can benefit from the quality and expertise of SOMOS, while having access to local, personalized service in Switzerland.

2021

Acquisition of Innov Wire Tech (IWT)

The SOMOS Group acquires Innov Wire Tech (IWT), based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which becomes SOMOS IWT.

2008

Creation of SOMTEC-CH

SOMTEC-CH is created to meet the growing demand in the Swiss market.

1985

First machines delivered in Switzerland

First machines sold to Swiss customers. Initially, the customers were working in the field of precision optics. SOMOS machines began to be used in watchmaking, for the polishing of watch glasses.

1984

First large-scale machines

Manufacturing of the MDF1000 and MDF1200 models.

Design and production of the first "large" SOMOS double-sided machine, with diameters of 1,000 mm and 1,200 mm.

1976

Relocation

The company's headquarters is moved to Poitiers.

1972

First double-side machine

Design and production of the double-sided polishing machines MDF400 and MDF600.

1971

René Silvestre becomes CEO

René Silvestre (the founder's son) becomes CEO of the company. The company is renamed and is now called SOMOS (Société d'Outillage et de Machines d'Optique Silvestre).

1958

New owner

Joseph Silvestre (family of the current owner) acquires the company, which becomes Silvestre & Co.

1901

Foundation

The company "Machines Charlot" is founded in Paris. The company manufactures machines for lapping and polishing flat or spherical components for precision optics.
